This fall 2009, the Central Valley Center for Health and Human Services is planning a fund raiser to support youth-based services. This event will be a fashion show, with lead sponsors to include the Galt School Districts, local businesses, Sacramento County Health and Human Services, and regional civic groups. Galt youth will work with Estrelita and Galt High School staff and students to design the program, and select a theme for making their own fashion statement. Many parent volunteers have already committed time and supplies. Exact date, time and location will be posted soon….!
Galt Go Green is a weekend event in which area youth will learn about the importance of environmental stewardship and global climate change. The Center will coordinate two days of hands on activities that involve cars, cooking and solar energy, analysis of a youth’s own ‘carbon footprint’, and recycling methods from around the world. Short documentary videos, opportunities to participate in ‘green’ design and construction, and many other ‘green’ activities that can be implemented at home and in the community will be introduced.
Galt Go Green is an initiative by and for Galt area youth. The Center’s Board of Directors have engaged in fund raising and grant writing for this upcoming event in November, 2009.
