Thrift Store

WE'VE MOVED!

We're just down the street at 330 S. Lincoln Way - still here in Galt!

Anyone can find something in the Central Valley Center’s Thrift Store, open six days a week. From A to Z, all ages enjoy the variety of recycled items that are in good condition.  And, the prices can’t be beat!

Thrfit Store

Our thrift store is a lifeline for many under employed, uninsured area residents.  It is most often the first source of community contact when a client needs assistance accessing public programs for legal, unemployment and disability issues, homelessness, basic social services, (e.g. food banks,  shelters, Child Protective Services and Domestic Violence triage and support or translation services).  Advocates provide assistance with applications, including job search, job training and mental health support.

Without a community-based family resource center capable of servicing a culturally diverse clientele, many area clients rely on Central Valley Center advocates and staff and the thrift store functions as a meeting place for client intake, consultation and community referrals.  All of this basic assistance is confidential and with minimal financial support from the broader community.

Youth Services

Area youth engage in service learning through the high school district, which refers students who want to volunteer, learn about community-based non-profit services, or assist with many of the Green Initiatives that recently started at the Center.   The Sacramento County Juvenile Offender Program requires youth on probation to complete their community service hours at the thrift store under the direct supervision of trained staff.Photo Courtesy of Galt Herald

Advocates work with youth at-risk using a resiliency and strength-based focus.  Intake and assessment of students are coordinated with staff from Sacramento County agencies and the Galt High School District.   The goal of the Center’s Mental Health Support Program is to empower youth to enact change in their lives, to focus on positive choices that support higher education, work ethic/career goals, and establishing a supportive network.  Family support specialists provide parent education and anger management training, help youth to identify positive life choices, and connect them to resources in the community that support their life goals. Many homeless youth are “walk-ins” from the streets, with a history of gang affiliation, chronic truancy or expulsion from school, and juvenile crime.  The majority do not have a safe, stable home environment.
